Stephanie Ann Johanson was nominated for the 2009 Aurora Award for Artistic Achievement for her cover on Neo-opsis Science Fiction Magazine issue 14, published May 10, 2008.

The original painting, titled Mars, was shown at the Vcon 33 art show, held in Vancouver, BC, and was shown at the 2008 World Fantasy Convention art show. World Fantasy was held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, October 30 to November 2, 2008.

The image may be viewed without the magazine title, writers, and UPC at www.neo-opsis.ca/Mars.htm. More of Stephanie’s work may be seen at: Paintings · Pen & Ink · Soapstone · Making a Mermaid.

Issue 15 2in wideNeo-opsis Science Fiction Magazine won a 2009 Aurora Award, in the category Best Work in English (Other).

The cover of issue 15 is also one of Stephanie’s paintings. While the cover of issue 14 is obviously science fiction with the space-suited figure standing on the cliff, the cover of issue 15 is more subtly fantasy with a mermaid hidden in the shadow of the rocks.

Stephanie is fond of hiding the fantastic elements of her work. At first glance many of her paintings look to be merely landscapes or seascapes. A closer look will often find hidden dragons, or other fantastic creatures.

If you are looking to say hello you are welcome to email or write to Stephanie Ann Johanson at Neo-opsis, or if you are on Facebook. Her account is under the name Stephanie Ann Johanson.
